Eye Doctor

Laurie J. Elgas, OD

Dr. Elgas was born and raised in northern Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Michigan in 1981. She worked at the U-M Medical School as a research technician after graduation, and then moved to New York City, where she worked in the Immunology Department at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Dr. Elgas received her Doctor of Optometry degree from the SUNY College of Optometry in 1991. In 1992, she moved to Boston, where she first worked for Healthdrive, providing mobile eye care services to patients in long-term care facilities. In 1994, she joined Metrowest Eye Physicians & Surgeons. There she provided primary eye care to all age groups, specializing in contact lenses and post-operative care to patients receiving eye surgery. Dr. Elgas started her private practice, Comprehensive Eye Care of New England, in Natick in 2008. Her primary motivation for doing so was to be able to provide comprehensive eye care to her patients without time constraints.

In her spare time, Dr. Elgas still sings and plays trumpet with her band, “Group Therapy.” Over the past fifteen years, the band has raised thousands of dollars playing primarily for local charities. You will often find them in Dover, Natick, Sherborn and other surrounding towns playing in the summer concert series. While in New York City, Dr. Elgas sang the National Anthem before Knicks and Rangers games at Madison Square Garden.

Dr. Elgas is married, has two sons and currently resides in Natick

Sally Carlos, OD

Dr Sally Carlos O.D. joined the professional eye care team at Comprehensive Eye Care of New England in July 2018 as an Associate Doctor.

She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics at the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, MA. Then went on to complete her Doctor of Optometry degree at the New England College of Optometry in Boston, MA. Since 2005, Dr Carlos has gained valuable experience working in various clinical settings in southern California and Massachusetts. She performs Comprehensive eye examinations for patients of all ages with a special interest in contact lenses.

She strongly believes that all children should be evaluated to ensure their visual system is ready for learning. Dr Carlos strives to build long term eye care relationships by paying attention to each individual and their needs.

Dr. Carlos is ﬂuent in Spanish and Portuguese. She is a member of the Massachusetts Society of Optometry and the American Optometric Association.

Elizabeth Seavey, RDO

Liz has been a licensed dispensing optician since 1993, having started her apprenticeship in 1989. During her career she has worked for various opticals, lens manufacturers and frame companies, including Metrowest Eye Physicians and Surgeons, American Optical, Zeiss, Gucci and Christian Dior.

Liz first met Dr. Elgas in 1998 and worked with her for five years, they then reconnected in 2008. Liz has been working for her ever since. Liz’s respect and appreciation for Dr. Elgas is infinite.

Dr. Carlos and Liz have known each other for approximately twelve years, they have enjoyed working with each other in the past and are extremely pleased to have the opportunity to work together again.

Liz and Kay have worked together off and on for the past 30 years. Their experience and friendship create a perfect working atmosphere. It is their pleasure to custom fit each individual with a truly unique eyewear experience.

Kathryn Maloney, RDO

Kay Graduated from the University of Southern Maine with a Bachelor of Science. She is a licensed dispensing optician and has been in the optical industry for over 35 years.

It is with complete delight that she is back working with Dr Elgas and Liz again. The entire staff at Comprehensive Eye Care of New England is completely patient focused. We understand that each patient has unique visual needs and therefore provide only what is best for the individual

The doctors and opticians will collaborate to find the best lens design, material, coatings and do any special measurements that may be needed for the patient’s lifestyle. There are many options and we provide only the finest

Working closely with both Dr Elgas and Dr Carlos we ensure that each patient’s prescription allows for the best vision possible in every part of their life. We strive to provide beautiful eyewear that makes the patient feel their best and see their best !

Gina DeFloria

Gina DeFloria is originally from a suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. She attended the College of the Holy Cross where she majored in Psychology and minored in Italian with a pre-health concentration.

While at Holy Cross, she was a 4 year member of the Division 1 Swimming and Diving team and named captain her senior year. She has always desired to work in the healthcare field, and started working full time at CECNE after her graduation in 2017.

Gina plans to attend Optometry school in the next few years. In her free time she enjoys going to barre classes and the beach.

Shannon Tucker

Shannon Tucker is a 2018 graduate of the College of the Holy Cross. She majored in psychology with a concentration in pre-medical studies. Shannon’s goal is to pursue a career as a physician’s assistant. While working towards her goal, Shannon has been a technician at CECNE since her sophomore year at Holy Cross. Shannon assists the doctors with their comprehensive eye exams by bringing patients in to perform initial testing and discussing any primary concerns.

With each patient Shannon brings her passion for medicine and experiences from various medical mission trips. One of her favorite memories in her medical experience thus far has been using her language ability to help perform exams (including eye exams!) on patients in rural Honduras. Shannon is excited to use the extensive knowledge and clinical experience she has gained from CECNE to help patients as a physician assistant.

Kathy Parish

Kathy has been working in medical practice management for over 30 years. She has been with CECNE since we opened in 2008, and previously worked with Dr. Elgas in the Framingham practice beginning in 2000.

As a highly skilled medical practice manager and experienced patient advocate, Kathy ensures our patient’s care is fully coordinated while assuring the highest level of customer service. Her expertise in billing and insurance requirements assist us to monitor appointments, secure referrals and obtain authorizations prior to the visit, allowing us to provide the appropriate level of medical care in an efficient and seamless manner.

Kathy coordinates all referrals to the ophthalmology specialists we work closely with. Making sure patients are scheduled in a timely manner and that the consultant has all the information required at the time of the appointment. She then monitors referrals to assure Dr. Elgas and Dr. Carlos receive the consultant’s report, and that follow up, and/or post-op appointments are scheduled.

Kathy has a BS degree from Emmanuel College. She lives in Milford. When not in the office she enjoys family activities with her grandchildren.

Mimi Gallagher

Mimi has been with CECNE for over 2 years. She works closely with Kathy, our practice Manager to assist patients with all of their administrative needs.

Mimi has considerable experience working in the customer service field, previously managing busy call centers.

Mimi graduated from the University of Hartford with a BA in Psychology. She lives in Sherborn with her husband Joe and their two daughters.
